Carved Tanzanite Lotus
Hand-carved from natural tanzanite, 102.00 carats
A single tanzanite of exceptional size, cut to an eight-sided tablet and carved across its full face with a lotus in concentric relief — a tight rosette at the centre, opening outward through four rings of petals to a border of fine hatched work at the edge. Roughly 3 cm across, and thick enough to hold the depth the carving needs.
The lotus is among the oldest motifs in Indian lapidary, cut into flat stones for Mughal-era jewels where the material was treated as a surface to be worked rather than faceted. Tanzanite is pleochroic — it shows different colours along different crystal axes — and turned in the light this piece moves between violet, deep indigo, and a paler blue that reads clearly through the thinner outer field. Carved by hand at our family atelier in Jaipur.
